Western Air has now added Commercial Pilot Training
to its already comprehensive flight instruction.
Head of Flight Training is David Scouller a well known
figure in the industry. He spent 35 years in the RAF
in front line squadrons, test flying and instructing
and has held a professional licence for over 40 years.
Since 1992 he has been conducting PPL, CPL, IR and Flight
Instructor Training. Thruxton is an ideal location with
unrestricted airspace, without lengthy delays and other
restrictions that are inevitable when using major airports.
Nevertheless the modular CPL flight training course
will include operation from a major airport.
Before starting a modular CPL course candidates must
hold a valid PPL (A) and have completed 150 hours flight
time as a pilot. The flying experience required to upgrade
from a PPL (A) to a JAR/CPL (A) is a pass in the CPL
Skill Test and a total of 200 hours flying, including
10 hours instrument flying instruction, 100 hours pilot
in command (PIC) and 5 hours night flying. 20 hours
of the PIC requirement must be cross country flying
including a route of at least 300 nautical miles, flown
on the same day, with two intermediate stops. Candidates
for the Skill Test must have completed an approved course
of 25 hours flying training at least 5 hours of which
must be on a complex type. The overall total of 200
hours flying may include experience gained on a Flight
Instructors Course and a Night Qualification Course,
both of which are also offered by Western Air Thruxton.
The course consists of a minimum of 25 hours or to gain
a CPL on a multi-engined aeroplane 28 hours. We offer
a single engined course on a PA28-161 Warrior and a
PA28-200R Arrow or a multi-engined course on a Warrior
and a Grumman GA-7 Cougar
